Dance Students Learn the Shen Wei
In conjunction with the engagement of Shen Wei Dance Arts at the Center April 16-18, the company’s Andrew Cowan conducted a special master class for talented young dancers from Academy of Dance (Santa Ana), Anaheim Ballet, California Conservatory of Dance (Mission Viejo), Cal State Fullerton, Chapman University, Southland Ballet (Fountain Valley), Irvine Valley College, Maple Conservatory (Irvine), Pacific Coast Academy of Dance (San Clemente) and the University of California, Irvine. Cowan is only one of three Company members taught to teach the Shen Wei pure body movement technique. The class was held in the Center’s Founders Hall on Wednesday, April 14.

Get the Look of Dreamgirls

Bloomingdale's South Coast Plaza has created a special Get the Look boutique inspired by the stunning costumes from the sensational new stage production of Dreamgirls. The boutique is open now through April 30 on the Upper Level of Bloomingdale’s where shoppers can browse a collection of sketches hand-drawn by Tony® Award-winning costume designer William Ivey Long and choose from a selection of glamorous styles that coordinate with the sketches. Shoppers can also enter to win a four-pack of tickets to Dreamgirls for the closing night performance. Dreamgirls will be at the Center April 21 - May 2.

Shen Wei Sightings
Saturday, April 17 is a great day for Shen Wei sightings. The celebrated choreographer, dancer and artist is bringing his company, Shen Wei Dance Arts, here April 16 – 18 for the West Coast premiere of Re – (I, II, III). Shen Wei will be at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. to discuss his concepts and vision with Cyrus Parker-Jeanette, chair of the Department of Dance, California State University, Long Beach. Tickets are $10 for non-Bowers members, $7 for members and $5 for students.
Following the Saturday matinee performance, Shen Wei will participate in a special free post-performance talkback moderated by Parker-Jeanette. Each performance by the company will include a free pre-performance lecture by Parker-Jeanette that begins one hour before curtain.

Hairspray's Composer to Receive Golden Score Award
Tony®-winning Hairspray composer Marc Shaiman will receive the prestigious American Society of Music Arrangers & Composers' Golden Score Award later this month in Los Angeles. O'Brien and Mitchell: Together Again
