A magical production of THE WIZARD OF OZ comes to Segerstrom Center for the Arts this month, and the Center and the Patina Group would like to make someone’s special wish come true. As Dorothy said, “There’s no place like home”! Show us what home means to you, and you could win a memorable evening on Saturday, February 22, 2014. The winner will enjoy dinner for two at Leatherby’s Cafe Rouge, selecting from Executive Chef Ross Pangilian’s THE WIZARD OF OZ themed menu, and attend the show at 7:30 p.m. in Segerstrom Hall.

How Sweet It Is! Now on the Menu: Broadway Cupcakes!

Surprise your loved ones at intermission by preordering Patina Group’s cupcake trio set inspired by three shows from Segerstrom Center’s Broadway season. The flashy purple confection dons Priscilla Queen of the Desert the Musical’s glittering pumps over a vanilla cake with berry filling, Glinda’s magic wand tops a caramel-filled chocolate cake for The Wizard of Oz and the iconic red heart from I Love Lucy® Live on Stage completes the last of the set with an American classic – red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting. 

To purchase a cupcake trio, please call Patina’s special events line at (714) 556-2122 x4202 by 5 p.m. the day before for the Tuesday to Thursday performances or by 5 p.m. on Friday for both Saturday and Sunday performances. Cupcakes are $10 for all three or $4 a la carte.

Sneak Peek Into Next Season

The Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall was filled to near capacity on Monday evening (August 12th) with an enthusiastic audience eager to learn more about the 2013-2014 lineup of shows coming to the Center.

As guests made their way to their seats, local Irish band the Humble Hooligans played spirited Celtic music as an homage to Broadway’s 2013 Tony® Award-winner ONCE, which comes to the Center next season.

During the special one-hour event, co-hosts Bob Bucci from Broadway Across America and Segerstrom Center Executive Vice President Judy Morr shared highlights of next season, complete with live performances from casts of The Wizard of Oz, Jersey Boys and Beauty and the Beast.

Video shout-outs to Costa Mesa Broadway fans came from New York cast members of Evita and CHICAGO. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater represented the Center’s International Dance Series with a performance of Robert Battle’s Takademe featuring dancer Daphne Lee.

To really embrace the theme of the evening, Bucci was the frosting on the Broadway cake when he donned a delicious cupcake costume courtesy of Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

From Dorothy to the Witches and Even Toto Too

A record-breaking 3,000 people followed the Yellow Brick Road to the Center last night for the screening of The Wizard of Oz which kicked off this summer's free Movie Mondays series on the community plaza. The evening started with a fun themed costume contest. Guests were invited to dress as their favorite character from the film for a chance to win prizes such as tickets to the Orange County Fair and goodies from Broadway shows scheduled to appear at the Center. Chosen by audience applause, the winner for best costume was Scarecrow Chase Castillo from Orange (pictured below with his sister Chanelle; pictured above: Kailyn, Olivia and Jackie Cortez from Placentia). Movie Mondays continues next week with Some Like it Hot on July 19 with a movie trivia contest.
