News from Broadway: Frasier star to take his place in la Cage

Playbill confirms reports that Kelsey Grammer, best known for his Emmy winning role on the hit sit-com Frasier, will star as Georges when Jerry Herman and Harvey Fierstein's hit musical La Cage aux Folles comes to Broadway from its London triumph at the Menier Chocolate Factory.  Grammer will play the role of Georges, the owner/emcee of the St. Tropez nightclub, and Douglas Hodge will re-create his London turn as Albin, who headlines the nightclub as the fabulous Zaza. This reconceived production opened to rave reviews in London and won the 2009 Olivier Awards for Best Musical Revival and Best Actor in a Musical, for Hodge.  La Cage will open April 18, 2010, at Broadway's Longacre Theatre.

This is terrific news! I absolutely adore Kelsey Grammer and he's perfect for the role of Georges. This will be the best musical! It's amusing, I wasn't aware that Grammer could sing at all, but I'm sure this will be better than the horrendous Pierce Brosnan experience in "Mamma Mia."
