ANYTHING GOES Star Mentors Chapman University Students

Broadway star Dennis Kelly is starring as Elisha Whitney in Roundabout Theatre Company's ANYTHING GOES at Segerstrom Center for the Arts this week. On Wednesday, September 25, he visited his alma mater, Chapman University. Kelly graduated in 1967 and is now an award-winning veteran of Broadway and London’s West End, television and commercials. He enthralled members of Professor Jonathan Pope Evans’ acting class for more than an hour. Kelly discussed his career (even singing a Goodyear tire jingle that he introduced to the world in the ‘70s) and offered valuable advice about auditioning technique, working with directors, adjusting to different playhouses, the importance of keeping fit and healthy and selecting roles.

While much of Kelly’s talk was about the art and craft of theatre, he also spoke to the heart and soul of the business. “I really believe that every one of us here has a message,” he said.

ANYTHING GOES continues at the Center through Sunday, September 29. For ticket information, click here.
